Investing in collectibles, such as rare or ancient coins, is one way of diversifying your hard assets portfolio. Apart from helping a collector to capture the art of a certain period of time, you can also get attractive financial returns from rare coins. So where can you sell your precious collectibles? Below is a guideline on how you can go about it.

Have an inventory

The first step you need to take is to come up with an accurate inventory of the ancient coins that you want to sell. You can either decide to sell the entire collection of just a few pieces. Use a spreadsheet to capture solid data, such as the number of complete sets or hodgepodge that you have and their origin. A dealer will use this information to calculate the value of your rare coins.

Selling in a shop

One way to sell your collectables is by visiting a coin shop. Start with the shops that are within your locality before moving to other areas. Instead of hauling your coins around, carry your inventory list the first time you visit any shop. The owner will look at it and tell you if they are willing to buy anything from your collection. Do not forget to ask the coin buyer the total value you can expect to make from your collection. If you are comfortable with the price and the owner is interested, you will be asked to bring your collection on an agreed date for verification. After verifying that everything on the list tallies with the actual coins, the shop owner will pay you the agreed amount.

Selling through auction

If you have a sizable collection of quality ancient coins, you can use an auction firm to sell the consignment. You can find a suitable auction firm by searching online or asking other collectors to recommend one.  All you need to do is present your inventory list to the auction firm to help them know what you are selling. The auctioneers will charge a modest fee for the task. You will then negotiate the terms of doing business and sign an agreement. After this, the firm will sell your collection in a public auction, such as Stack or Heritage and pay you within the agreed period.

Online platform

You can also use the online platform to sell your coin.  There are several websites that allow collectors to sell their coins. All you need to do is sign up an account with any one of these websites, then post an accurate description every individual coin in your collection and also provide a high quality photo. You can either provide the specific price for each piece or allow the potential buyers to submit their bids.
